The Witcher

I spent the past three days binge-watching The Witcher, seasons 1 and 2, and I have to say I really enjoyed it.  I went into it knowing very little, I didn't read the books or play the video games, but I think that was probably a good thing for me, because I was able to enjoy it simply for what it was.

I think I preferred season one over season two, I liked all the disparate storylines, past and present, and how they were all interwoven and collided together in the end.  I liked in both seasons how small things that don't seem that important came back around later to mean something in the story.  Although, poor Ciri, can this girl have one friend her own age who doesn't die or betray her?

My absolute favourite character is Jaskier, he is only in like half the episodes, but whenever he wasn't around I was like when is he coming back?  He is funny, and always getting into scrapes, but he is also surprising compassionate on occasion.   I also get why everybody ships him and Geralt, they got a little bit of that Hercules//Iolaus energy from back in the day, although I wish they had more scenes together.  If Jaskier ends up dead in the books for something please don't tell me, I don't want to know.

I also surprisingly like Fringilla, she is one of the antagonists, and she comes off as pretty much an evil guy in season one, but after season two she seems so much more complex.  (Also, I sometimes have a thing for manipulative and powerful women.)

If there are any drawbacks I would say there was lots of violence, but I expected that with fantasy.  Also, the directors, or showrunners or whoever, seem to love showing naked women, especially their boobs, like boobs everywhere.  I will say it was worse in season 1, and they toned it down some in season 2, which I'm thankful for, like I appreciate a beautiful woman as much as the next person, and their are times where nakedness makes sense, but there were times in season 1 where it they just seemed to being throwing it in there for no reason.

Still haven't watched. It's a tumblr fandom for me, with lots of eye candy. Calanthe and her guy had me actually go look up a full synopses of her story line, though.

(I am choosing Dany for the icon because of all the fancasting of Geralt as actually from House Targaryen. LOL)

I agree about the ridiculous boobiness of S1 and am pleasantly surprised that they toned it down for S2! It felt almost like they were trying for GoT-style Fantasy instead of being its own thing that could stand on its own? Haven't watched S2 yet because work and life has actually been crazy but I've been hearing mostly good things so I'm really looking forward to it!
