Trope Meme
I'm bored, so I borrowed this meme from
resnullius_bells where you have to chose between different tropes and explain why.
Slow burn OR love at first sight: there is something so satisfying about watching two people slowly come together as a couple
Fake dating OR secret dating: there is something funny about a pairing that thinks they are really good at keeping things under wraps, when in reality everyone knows
Enemies to lovers OR best friends to lovers: I love both these tropes very much, but I do a have a soft spot for well done enemies to lovers
Fantasy au OR modern au: I watch a lot of fantasy/sci-fi shows so modern AUs are often a nice break form the angst inherent in these shows
Smut OR fluff: I do love me some smut, but fluff puts the biggest smile on my face
Mutual pining OR domestic bliss: if they end up together in the end it can be a delicious payoff to all the angsty pinning
Alternate universe OR future fic: it's fun to imagine different universes where different pairings could end together, or characters who never met could meet
One shot OR multi-chapter: I do enjoy multi-chapter, but I often find myself reading fic late at night or early in the morning, when I have limited time, so one-shots hit the spot
Kid fic OR road trip fic: it's nice to see your pairing being parents, especially if you know it is never going to happen in canon
Reincarnation OR character death: I guess if I have to pick one it is death, but not a big fan of either one really
Arranged marriage OR accidental marriage: this one depends on the fandom, accidental marriages can make for really fun stories, but if it is something like GoT, then arranged marriage all the way
Time travel OR isolated together: two characters relying solely on each other, slowly revealing things about each other. Yes, please!
Neighbors OR roommates: I like the idea of neighbors looking out for each other, than becoming friends, then more
Sci-fi au OR magic au: magic has so many delightful possibilities, both good and bad
Angst OR crackfic: does the angst have a happy ending? Because I love that shit! (although, crackfic can be so funny sometimes)
Apocalyptic OR mundane: like I said above I already watch a lot of angsty canons, so mundane AUs can give your characters a nice break
High school romance or middle aged romance: middle aged romance all the way! I always ship the parents on any teen show
BDSM or vanilla: this super depends on my mood, but I guess I prefer loving vanilla sex (however, BDSM can be written as loving too, if you get the right author)
Redemption or corruption: some of my faves are antagonists that have had good redemption arcs
Vampires or werewolves: because vampires squick me out, they always have, which made it hard for me to avoid them when they were all the rage awhile back (my one exception being Benny from SPN, I love that vamp and that vamp only)
Soulmates or second chances: two people overcoming obstacles and finding a way to love again is much more satisfying to me than predestination
Hurt/comfort or romance: I'm going H/C if it is high on comfort and low on the hurt, because it is the characters comforting each after trauma that really appeals to me
Rescue fic or working together to defeat X: I like both, but I'm a sucker for a realization of feelings from one character once the other is in danger, also desperate, tearful hugs when they are reunited are always nice

I don't know if it is just the sci-fi/fantasy shows I watch, but it does seem like angst is always a heavy component. The exceptions being Star Trek, Trek deals with very difficult themes sometimes, but rarely seems to linger in misery, and Good Omens which is a delightful Angel/Demon romance set at the end of the world.

I write Good Omens (I love Crowley). I wrote a GO ficlet for the Kissathon: https://archiveofourown.org/works/23106718

(And I'll choose almost anything over soulmates.)

I'm so glad that I'm not the only one who prefers loving vanilla sex to BDSM.

Exactly!
I despise it, but I think the main reason is that fandom has become obsessed with it and very pushy and it is really hard to find fics without it, especially in the popular fandoms. If it wasn't that way I think I'd just be indifferent.
