Original Star Trek Films and My Love for The Search for Spock

Today I watched the first three Star Trek films, and can I say I love them so much, but most especially Star Trek 3: The Search for Spock. You know, I think I saw, all or part of, the Wrath of Khan before, and of course the iconic scene in the radiation chamber, but I didn't really remember it, it's been too many years. The first film was more about showing off their visual effects capabilities, and the second was action packed, but the third film was a great mix of action and character driven moments. I love it so much, because it has so much heart, the whole gang working together to save Spock. They increased the parts for Scotty, Uhura, Sulu and Chekov, and really showcased their characters in ways the first two movies didn't. Their breaking out Bones from the Starfleet jail and stealing the Enterprise was a fantastic caper. I loved McCoy in this film. Everyone always talks about the Kirk & Spock relationship, and it is a huge part of the story, but so is the Bones & Spock relationship, like look at this gif



Like ah, it hits me right in the heart. Off topic, but I've been rewatching a lot of the original series this past week, and can I say that I have become a full on Spones shipper, like I always kind of shipped the triad of Kirk/Spock/Bones, but on rewatch I find myself leaning more heavily towards Spock/Bones, which I never did before, but I love their bickering like an old married couple dynamic. Anyways, if it hadn't been for this pandemic I probably wouldn't have watched these films, but I am so glad I did.

I really like the third one too. I'll admit my favourite is the fourth though, lol. Of course, I have not seen them since I was a child. I should do a rewatch.

To be honest, I never saw anything shippy between any of them. I always saw the crew as one big platonic found family and loved it. Perhaps the original found family.

I always liked the fourth one too, and it is probably the one I have seen the most often, because it seemed to be on TV quite often. I don't think I ever watched the third before, so this was a delight for me.

Yes, this crew is such a found family, and as you said maybe the original found family. I love how all of them are just so ride or die for each other, like one of them is in mortal danger, but it might mean the destruction of all of their careers, and their all like fuck it, our friend is more important than your rules. God, I love them so much.

Search for Spock holds a special place in my heart because it's the first Star Trek-related piece of media that I remember encountering. It's a great movie all around. David's death always gets me no matter how many times I see it.

If I had to choose one favorite out of all of the Star Trek canon, the TOS movies might be it. I love all of them, even Final Frontier in its way.

David's death is so hard, because Kirk and him had so little time together to be father and son, David says "I knew you would come" he had really come to believe in his father, and then he dies in the next scene, heartbreaking. And, I know people always like to shit on Shatner's acting, but he did a fabulous job in the scene where he finds out about David's death, you really see his grief, and then he has to turn away to compose himself, so he can still command his crew, and Bones touches his arm, ah, that scene is so powerful.

I have never seen Final Frontier, I know that a lot of people hate that one, but I hear that it has some good Bones' content, and I think that is the one where Scotty/Uhura are together, and I've always liked them as a pairing, so I really want to give it a try. That being said a lot of people hate the fourth film with a passion and I've always enjoyed it.

Anyways, I do plan to watch the rest of the films at some point, but I'm going to take a little break first.

Yes to all of this! I 100% ship Bones/Spock in the original series. But the chemistry just isn't quite there between them in the reboot series, imo, so the ship hasn't really taken off among new fans, alas.

I will admit to having a soft spot for the fifth movie. The plot is dumb but I super appreciate the cheesiness, and there are lots of trio feels!

Now I really want to have a movie marathon.

I'm so glad to find so many other spones shippers. I never really got into the reboot series, I've seen part of one film.

Now everyone is making me want to watch the fifth film, I've seen the fourth movie multiple times, but I never saw the fifth film, because everyone said it was bad and not to bother, but if it's got trio feels I definitely have to give it a shot.

You know what? I have seen this movie, I remember the camping scenes, I remember Spock rescuing Kirk after he fell off the mountain, but the weird thing is I remember nothing else about the movie. God, memory is a weird thing.

Yes! Spock/McCoy is the TOS ship of my heart, and I absolutely love the scene in that gif.

It is a delight to find so many other spones shippers. I wish I could find a gif of the next line in that scene, where he says he doesn't think he can stand to lose him again, like right in the feels.

I love Spones from the original series, they are my OTP. I never really saw Kirk/Spock. The reboot I am full on Kirk/Bones but Spones will always have a special place in my heart. I am glad to find others who ship them as well.

I'm so glad I made this post, I'm finding so many other Spones shippers, which is such a nice surprise, because I assumed, because of the fandom at large, that everyone was a Kirk/Spock shipper.
