I read Memory Alpha and now I'm sad

Do you know that there is some debate about when McCoy dies? Like some of the novels have him dying as early as 2366, but others have him still alive when Spock disappears in 2387, at around a 160 years old. This makes me sad, that McCoy, as far as he knows, outlives two of his dearest friends. And then I was thinking about Spock dying in an alternative reality far away from everyone that knew and loved him. And then I cried for the both of them.

Then I was thinking about Generations, I haven't seen it since it came out, and I don't think I'll ever watch it again, it was too depressing for me. I think the one thing that always bothered me about that movie was that there was no Spock or Bones in the beginning sequence, like don't get me wrong, I love Scotty and Chekov, but it seems so wrong that Spock and Bones are not there, on the ship, at the time of Kirk's "death". I was reading on Memory Alpha that originally they were supposed to be included, but that changed at some point in the development process. It really bothers me that we never get to see any of the original crew grieving and dealing with Kirk's death, except for that heartbreaking shot of Scotty and Chekov looking out into empty space realizing they had lost Kirk. Also, if the timelines are correct that means that both Spock and Bones were alive when Kirk was discovered in the Nexus in 2371 by Picard, and yet Kirk is never reunited with his friends (which sucks, I have head canons now of Kirk going to find both of them, and in my head Spock and Bones live together when Spock isn't busy with his ambassador duties).

Anyways, I don't know what the point of this is, except maybe don't go doing too much research about your fave characters, because you might make yourself sad and weepy.

Yeah, I can't deal with this at all. I decided a while back that canon can do what it does, but in the quantum universe that I engage with, Spock dies at home, on Vulcan, peacefully after a long, accomplished life.

I love all of these thoughts, sad as they are.

Thank you for sharing them.

This may or may not make you feel better, but Shatner wrote a whole series of like 10 novels in which Kirk is brought back to life by mad science post-Generations and has a whole bunch more adventures with Ambassador Spock. He also marries a nice Klingon lady and attempts to settle down, I think. I don't recall if Bones was still alive, at least I don't think he was a major character if so, alas. The books are widely panned, but I read at least the first 4 or so and recall enjoying them ....
