TFW I could rec like... half of these solely with Seanan McGuire/Mira Grant titles because I am that readerly fan LOLOL. But I will try to avoid that. For the Horror/Paranormal Rec, definitely ROLLING IN THE DEEP by Mira Grant (which is a novella) followed by INTO THE DROWNING DEEP which is the full length novel sequel. Diverse cast with a fun format including things like transcripts from podcasts/episodes of mockumentaries from the Imagine Network and excepts from academic papers or lectures and that kind of thing, and the big draw - a fairly scientific take on deep sea murderous mermaids. Definitely horror and literally everyone dies in the novella (not a spoiler - the book's description tells you all hands are lost - the horror is about how it happened and then the sequel is family/friends/other scientists heading out to discover the truth for themselves), but so SO good!

For Fairy Tale retelling: BLANCA & ROJA by Anna-Marie McLemore is a fantastic queer Latinx YA retelling/mashup of both Snow White & Rose Red and Swan Lake. Basically anything by McLemore is fantastic, though I always need like an entire box of tissues after LOLOL

Passing through with a few recs that can fill some squares :D

HERE THE WHOLE TIME by Vitor Martins - It's a LGBTQ+ YA novel translated from Brazilian Portuguese to English and it's super cute. It's about a boy who has to live with his crush for 15 days during summer break.

LET ME HEAR A RHYME by Tiffany D. Jackson - Another YA novel about three teenagers who end up turning their dead friend into a rap star by pretending he is still alive. There are lyrics for each rap single and they're amazing. Warning for gun violence.

A HISTORY OF WILD PLACES by Shea Ernshaw - Mystery/Thriller novel about two people who go missing at different times, but in the same place. It also deals with cults. The writing is pretty unsettling at times which fits the story really well.

JADE CITY by Fonda Lee - Book 1 in a (Urban) Fantasy trilogy that is complete and really is like the Godfatheras as the synopsis claims. There's a lot of intergenerational shenanigans in the form of betrayal and scheming and murder. It's also set in an Asian-inspired world and the plot development is excellent when it comes to consequences and payouts.
