Snowflake Challenge Day #11

In your own space, recommend a fannish or creative resource.

I am going to recommend Fanlore, this wiki tries to record a historical overview of fandom activities. I have been editing Fanlore for over two years now, and have been an advanced editor for little over a year. I have created several articles in a variety of fandoms, usually whatever I'm currently into or what catches my eye. I found through working on Fanlore that I enjoy research, well to a degree. When creating articles you often find references to certain challenges or websites, and you have to dig through online archives trying to find the original sources. This is often true with older fandoms where you have to try and seek out screen captures of old GeoCities/Angelfire sites or long discontinued forums. However, this is not all that uncommon with more recent online fandom, one of my projects is to record fanweeks and writing challenges on Tumblr. I'll see a post saying something like I made this for "Sansa Week", then I try and find the original blog that hosted the fanweek, which many times no longer exists, so then I try and find the original announcement post reblogged on someone's blog or in the tags, announcement posts are very important because they usually give all the details of the challenges, like dates, prompts, etc. Sometimes this is an easy process, sometimes it is extremely time consuming, but I kind of feel that it is important because if not recorded many of these challenges will just be lost to the mists of the internet.

We can always use more editors. Some projects could I use help on:
*Jate vs Skate - if anyone was in Lost fandom back in the day and remembers the ship war the article could use more input, or if you can point me in the right direction to find more info I'd appreciate it
*List of Supernatural Challenges - I'm currently going through this list and trying to make articles for all the challenges if I can, this is by no means an exhaustive list, so if you know of other Supernatural challenges you can add them, because this fandom is pretty huge

Anyways, Fanlore can be a great place to learn about the history of a fandom.

This is such a great post, and Fanlore such an awesome resource and one that is dear to my fannish heart.. Thank you for all your work on it. Alas, neither Lost nor Supernatural are my area of fannish expertise.
