Challenge #13

In your own space, rec three fanworks that you did not create.

Okay my time has come, but I shall try not to go too crazy. Here are some recs:

Good Omens

Note: All three of these fics are complete AUs, so they can probably be read with little to no canon knowledge.

Rating: E
Warnings: No Archive Warning Apply
Relationships: Aziraphale/Crowley
Summary: This isn’t your average coffee shop AU.
Reccer's Note: The author's summary does not do this story justice. I don't want to give too much away, but it starts out as a Groundhog Day style story and expands from there. The beauty of it is how Aziraphale and Crowley are drawn back to each again and again even though they shouldn't be. There are also appearances from some of the other season 1 cast, Anathema and Madame Tracey are amazing, as is their right.

Relationships: Aziraphale/Crowley
Summary: Gone are the glory days when space exploration was novel and exciting and respectable. When astronauts were revered as heroes. No more Yuri Gagarins or Buzz Aldrins or Neil Armstrongs. Two centuries after Sally Ride and Chris Hadfield were celebrated for their achievements, space had become the frontier of the working class.
As opportunities went down and inequalities went up on Earth, droves of blue-collar workers flocked to the skies to make a living. They put their lives in the hands of money-grubbing CEOs so their families could eat and they could afford to live on the levels higher than the smog line. By 2210 there were operations on every planet and nearly half the two hundred moons in the solar system. In 2233 Dominion Mining had built Ambition on Styx.
A mining crew and a geologist and a moon on the edge of collapse. What could possibly go wrong? Turns out, pretty much everything.
Reccer's Note: By the same author as above, this one is horror sci-fi. I didn't completely like how their sexual/romantic relationship was characterized. However, some of the scenes, especially the desperate and scary ones, have really stuck with me, and I find myself still thinking about them sometimes and it's been a year since I read this!

Summer's End by FeralTuxedo

Relationships: Aziraphale/Crowley
Summary: 2095. Britain is a post-apocalyptic wasteland ravaged by droughts, the collapse of civilisation, and hordes of the undead. Despite that, Aziraphale’s life is actually pretty good. He has his caravan, his books, and his work, offering his services to the men who stop by Tadfield on their arduous journey north.
One day, a mysterious stranger knocks on his door. Crowley is charming and handsome and he appears to know his way around a vegetable garden. He comes with the tempting offer of a mutually beneficial arrangement. But it’s in Aziraphale’s best interest not to get too attached.
A dystopian cottagecore sex worker AU.
Reccer's Note: This is probably one of the most wholesome dystopian zombie apocalypse AUs I think I ever read. The zombies are more of a background element, except for one pivotal scene. The author does a great job with their setting descriptions, you can feel the hot summer sun, the bees buzzing through the garden, etc. Aziraphale is a sex worker in this story, so there are scenes where Aziraphale is sleeping with people other than Crowley, they are not especially detailed, but they are something to be aware of. I think the author handles Aziraphale's sex work very well, and Aziraphale's reluctance to start a relationship with Crowley makes a lot of sense considering his background and their circumstances.

Our Flag Means Death

Love Begets Love by HedgePodge
Word Count: 45,789
Rating: T
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Izzy/Ed/Stede
Summary: Edward and Stede have been happy co-captains on the Revenge for nearly a year. Izzy’s accepted sailing on the Revenge. He’s even accepted Edward and Stede’s relationship, even though it makes him want to jump off the ship. It’s been months since he’s tried to kill Stede, which is major progress.
Although… Stede and Edward have been acting very strange lately. They keep seeking Izzy out and pulling him away from his work. Oh well. It’s probably nothing.
According to Edward, he’s been dating Izzy since Izzy’s half-dead love confession a week ago. Stede began dating Izzy a few days later. However, their interactions with Izzy now aren’t any different than they were before they were dating. Stede decides that a good old-fashioned courtship is in order to make Izzy comfortable in their relationship.
What could possibly go wrong?
Reccer's Note: Izzy is a bit of an idiot in this one, I think he is smarter in canon, but you have to kind of go with. Every chapter made me laugh, here are Stede and Ed are trying to be good boyfriends and Izzy is getting more and more confused by the minute. The author extends the concept a little too long maybe, but I'm willing to forgive it for something that makes me smile.

battle of the boyfriends by burning__bridges
Word Count: 38,145
Rating: T
Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings (there's nothing really bad in here)
Relationships: Izzy/Ed/Stede
Summary: Maybe it starts when Jim, with a mischievous smirk plastered onto their face, suggests an idea they have for a competition. Something that'll be really entertaining, for a few weeks at least. A way to finally get back at Izzy Hands for being an irritating bastard all this time.
"The idea is really very simple," Jim starts, "two people compete in order to win Izzy's affections. Whoever seduces Izzy the fastest wins."
Or: Stede and Edward lose a few games of rock, paper, scissors and ending up competing to see who can seduce Izzy quickest. Izzy, understandably, quickly becomes utterly baffled with everyone's behaviour.
Reccer's Note: This is in turns funny, sweet and angsty, because Izzy doesn't know about the bet and starts to fall for Stede, and of course he's always loved Ed. Stede and Ed start to fall for Izzy in turn, so everything is a whole pot of misunderstandings.

Second Chance at Fixing What You Fucked Up by Tessa96
Word Count: 17,581
Rating: T
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply (there is some self-harm in this one)
Relationships: Izzy/Ed/Stede
Summary: Izzy Hands is left wounded and abandoned by Blackbeard, drifting on a piece of wood in the ocean. Thinking he has passed on, he instead wakes up on a ship with Stede Bonnet and his crew tending to him. This gives Izzy some room to reevaluate some of his life choices
Reccer's Note: This one is very angsty. Ed leaves Izzy for dead in one of his drunken Kraken moments, then forgets he did it later. Izzy is rescued by Stede and the two of them work together to find Ed. There is one scene near the end of this fic that is a little bit infamous in Steddyhands circles.

Star Trek: Lower Decks

The Thing About Heroes by southernmedicine
Word Count: 1772
Rating: G
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Tendi & Doctor T'Ana
Summary: Everyone needs a hobby. For Tendi, few things are more enjoyable than archival cataloguing.
Every now and then, she'll take the time to really examine what it is she is lovingly handling and organizing with such care, allowing herself to follow her curiosity and get swept up in the discovery. Hours can pass by, sometimes, before she realizes she hasn't been on shift for ages. How can she help it, when so many of the fascinating topics she happens across tend to fall in line with her favorite subjects of study?
Reccer's Note: I got this as a gift for the Star Trek Holidays Exchange, and I think it deserves more love. Tendi learns about Doctor Leonard McCoy, and is fascinated, but none of her friends want to nerd out about it with her.
