Challenge #2

Tunnel of Love
Journaling: The romance of summer! What do you love? Write about anything you feel sentimental about or that gets your heart pumping.
Creative: Write a love poem to anyone or anything you like

Oh man neither one of these challenges was made for me. Summer is not my favourite season, that would be Autumn, I know very basic white woman of me. Plus, I grew up on a farm, so summer always meant work. I guess I do like how fast and easy it is to get dressed in the mornings, just throw on shorts and a t-shirt and you're good. I also love all the summer fruit we get this time of year, strawberries, raspberries, cherries, etc, yummy!

I'm not a person who really writes poetry anymore (I dabbled a little bit when I was teenager). I got nothing against it, I enjoy other people's poetry, it just not something I enjoy doing myself.

As recompense for my lack of creativity please accept his famous poem about Sherlock Holmes:

Make a rec list!

Okay, I already made a rec list for Day 10 of the Snowflake Challenge of fics that have stuck with me over the years. So I thought this time I would rec some more recent finds I have enjoyed:

All Along There Was Some Invisible String Tying You To Me by ciabattabread
Fandom: Doctor Who
Pairing: Donna & Ten, Donna & Fourteen
Rating: G
Word Count: 924 words
Summary: Something happened to Donna Noble during the year she lost. Out of the corner of her eye, she can just see another string, a second connection... but for whom? And why can't she remember?
Notes: I'm not normally one for soulmate AUs, but I loved the idea of Donna and the Doctor being platonic soulmates.

Blackbeard and the Gentleman Pirate Answer the Web's Most Searched Questions | WIRED
by charlieloverboy
Fandom: Our Flag Means Death
Pairing: Ed/Stede/Izzy
Rating: G
Word Count: 2252 words
Summary:
FOR PUBLIC RELEASE
Video title: “Blackbeard and the Gentleman Pirate Answer the Web's Most Searched Questions | WIRED”
From WIRED Entertainment
Notes: I don't how this author did it, but I can completely picture this interview inside my head (maybe I have just watched way too many of these types of videos in the past). The dialogue flowed in such a way to be consistent with these types of interviews, and it also felt in character. The story does a great job of releasing tidbits of information about their life in this modern AU. I only wish there was a companion fic for this piece showing how they got together, because I would read the hell out of that. I head-canon that Izzy is Ed's manager/producer.

Asking for More Again by mossylog5
Fandom Our Flag Means Death
Pairing: Ed/Stede/Izzy
Rating: M
Word Count: 6691 words
Summary: Israel Hands is having a no-good very-bad day. He’s locked himself out, it’s snowing, and the only place he can reasonably go is his ex-husband's new partner’s house. And on top of it all, he’s got a fucking cold.
Notes: This is just my type of fic, Izzy being sick and being forced to accept care. Although this has the basic set-up for a lot of Steddyhands Modern AUs, I did like this author's interpretation of it, and how Ed and Izzy actually manage to talk about their feelings.

I'm In Love With My Own Sins by turps
Fandom: Marvel Comics/MCU
Pairing Clint/Bucky
Rating: G
Word Count: 6816 words
Summary: Magic. It's always magic.
Notes: Bodyswap fic! This isn't one of my usual pairings, but I enjoyed this one. I love how Clint and Bucky are just so used to weird stuff happening to them they're not even that phased by the bodyswap.

Comfort Amongst Chaos by WillowTea
Fandom: Good Omens
Pairing: Azirphale/Crowley
Rating: T
Word Count: Fancomic!
Summary: Crowley shows up at the bookshop spouting incoherent nonsense about Aziraphale being in danger and needing to keep the angel safe. Aziraphale does his best to understand and comfort Crowley through what is a difficult time.
Notes: I was gifted this fantastic comic for the Good Omens Holiday Exchange. The artist does such a great job with the expressions, you can feel Crowley's fear and Aziraphale's worry.

Speaking of Good Omens, enjoy this fun vid with a some nice editing:

Challenge #6

In your own space, share a favourite piece of original canon (a show, a specific TV episode, a storyline, a book or series, a scene from a movie, etc) and explain why you love it so much

I've been having a terrible day so, cut for mention of death )

Anyways, I didn't know what to put for this post. Last year I raved about Izzy Hands, I still love him to bits, but I'm still super sad about how season 2 ended so I'm choosing someone different this year.

I thought I would go with a classic fave of mine Carol Peletier from The Walking Dead. She probably has one of the best character arcs in a series I've ever seen, going from fearful abuse victim to fierce protector of her group of survivors, with a whole bunch of trauma along the way. I don't know if I can recommend TWD overall, it dragged on for way too long, and I stopped watching after the stupidness that was All Out War. Plus, you can only watch so much zombie apocalypse stuff for so long before it starts to get to you. That being said, Carol is still one of my all time favourite characters. Enjoy this vid, it does contain spoilers, but it probably won't matter out of context. It is just her being a badass for most of it:

kingstoken: (Default)
If you need something uplifting after season 2 of Good Omens I recommend watching this. Spoilers for all of season 2, and a warning that a clip from "that scene" is used, but it's quick.

Prompt 4: Daisy
These sunny springtime blooms have several positive meanings. The meaning of a daisy flower can be purity, innocence, new beginnings, joy and cheerfulness. In the Victorian Era, daisies symbolized innocence, loyalty and an ability to keep things sec

I decided to go a little different with the prompt of innocence and focus on characters that were innocent and didn't deserve the situations the narrative put them in:

The beginning part of this vid really emphasizes how young and naive Sansa was at the beginning of the series.

My poor boy Adam, abandoned by his brothers and vanquished to Hell for 10 years. Side note, I am also so impressed with vidders that can make great vids with so little source material, I think Adam was in maybe 3 episodes tops and the same with Michael.

Robin had such potential as a character, it was really such a shame that the writers just didn't seem to know what to do with him.

I also looked at some TWD vids, but I thought horror was probably cheating, because nobody deserves the zombie apocalypse. I also skimmed over my vids from The 100, the show was such misery porn at some times and I just couldn't bring myself to look at them, but just know that almost no one deserved their fate in that show either.

Prompt 3: Bluebell
In the language of flowers, the bluebell is a symbol of humility, constancy, gratitude and everlasting love. It is said that if you turn a bluebell flower inside-out without tearing it, you will win the one you love, and if you wear a wreath of bluebells, you will only be able to speak the truth.

I have to confess that I was at a bit of a loss of what to post for this day, so I decided to post some stuff about my favourite boys in blues Spones from Star Trek: TOS. Below are a couple of great spones vids:

This one's song choice is stellar for this pairing:

If you are looking for another Spones vid with a great song choice check out this vid rec list, it's the second vid.

Lastly if you still want some Spones feels, here is a playlist I made a few years back, I still like my song choices:

Prompt 1: Iris
They can represent faith, hope, courage, wisdom and admiration. Specific flower colors attach further meanings to the pretty blooms. Purple iris brings a message of wisdom and compliments, while a bouquet of blue iris blossoms speak of hope and faith.

First off, Happy Canada Day to my fellow Canadians!

Purple is my favourite color! I didn't think I would have anything to post today, but went through some bookmarks and found some purple-ish related things:

First a Steddyhands fic where Ed is under the influence of laudanum, didn't they used to call drugs the purple haze? Well I'm making it work for this prompt anyways. I really like this fic and how it shows how much Ed relied on Izzy, and Izzy 's torn feelings about Ed and their former relationship. Ed's walls being down with the drugs was interesting to see. I also felt the Stede and Izzy portion of the story felt quite natural, and it ends on a hopeful note:

Ache by xylodemon
Fandom: Our Flag Means Death
Word Count: 3582 words
Rating: T
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Izzy/Ed/Stede
Summary:Izzy tells Ed, "Lift up a bit," and slots the pillow under Ed's knee. As Ed settles, he glances at Bonnet. "When it gets like this, it hurts him less when it's bent."

This Interview with a Vampire vid set to Taylor Swift's Lavender Haze. It's well done, and I think it really highlights how Louie falls under Lestat's spell. (TW for blood, they are vampires afterall)

This fun vid about Gabriel from Good Omens, it will have you smiling, even when he's being an asshole. On a side note, I'm very interested to see how different Gabriel is going to be in season 2 (he looks very different in the trailer) and how much of the jerky Gabriel will shine through.

That's it for today, I hope you have a good one!

Challenge #13

In your own space, rec three fanworks that you did not create.

Okay my time has come, but I shall try not to go too crazy. Here are some recs:

Good Omens

Note: All three of these fics are complete AUs, so they can probably be read with little to no canon knowledge.

Echo by snae_b
Word Count: 51,851
Rating: E
Warnings: No Archive Warning Apply
Relationships: Aziraphale/Crowley
Summary: This isn’t your average coffee shop AU.
Reccer's Note: The author's summary does not do this story justice. I don't want to give too much away, but it starts out as a Groundhog Day style story and expands from there. The beauty of it is how Aziraphale and Crowley are drawn back to each again and again even though they shouldn't be. There are also appearances from some of the other season 1 cast, Anathema and Madame Tracey are amazing, as is their right.

Lunacy by snae_b
Word Count: 57,077
Rating: E
Warnings: No Archive Warning Apply (Their is some NSFW artwork included in this one)
Relationships: Aziraphale/Crowley
Summary: Gone are the glory days when space exploration was novel and exciting and respectable. When astronauts were revered as heroes. No more Yuri Gagarins or Buzz Aldrins or Neil Armstrongs. Two centuries after Sally Ride and Chris Hadfield were celebrated for their achievements, space had become the frontier of the working class.
As opportunities went down and inequalities went up on Earth, droves of blue-collar workers flocked to the skies to make a living. They put their lives in the hands of money-grubbing CEOs so their families could eat and they could afford to live on the levels higher than the smog line. By 2210 there were operations on every planet and nearly half the two hundred moons in the solar system. In 2233 Dominion Mining had built Ambition on Styx.
A mining crew and a geologist and a moon on the edge of collapse. What could possibly go wrong? Turns out, pretty much everything.
Reccer's Note: By the same author as above, this one is horror sci-fi. I didn't completely like how their sexual/romantic relationship was characterized. However, some of the scenes, especially the desperate and scary ones, have really stuck with me, and I find myself still thinking about them sometimes and it's been a year since I read this!

Summer's End by FeralTuxedo
Word Count: 47,342
Rating: E
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Aziraphale/Crowley
Summary: 2095. Britain is a post-apocalyptic wasteland ravaged by droughts, the collapse of civilisation, and hordes of the undead. Despite that, Aziraphale’s life is actually pretty good. He has his caravan, his books, and his work, offering his services to the men who stop by Tadfield on their arduous journey north.
One day, a mysterious stranger knocks on his door. Crowley is charming and handsome and he appears to know his way around a vegetable garden. He comes with the tempting offer of a mutually beneficial arrangement. But it’s in Aziraphale’s best interest not to get too attached.
A dystopian cottagecore sex worker AU.
Reccer's Note: This is probably one of the most wholesome dystopian zombie apocalypse AUs I think I ever read. The zombies are more of a background element, except for one pivotal scene. The author does a great job with their setting descriptions, you can feel the hot summer sun, the bees buzzing through the garden, etc. Aziraphale is a sex worker in this story, so there are scenes where Aziraphale is sleeping with people other than Crowley, they are not especially detailed, but they are something to be aware of. I think the author handles Aziraphale's sex work very well, and Aziraphale's reluctance to start a relationship with Crowley makes a lot of sense considering his background and their circumstances.

Our Flag Means Death

Love Begets Love by HedgePodge
Word Count: 45,789
Rating: T
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Izzy/Ed/Stede
Summary: Edward and Stede have been happy co-captains on the Revenge for nearly a year. Izzy’s accepted sailing on the Revenge. He’s even accepted Edward and Stede’s relationship, even though it makes him want to jump off the ship. It’s been months since he’s tried to kill Stede, which is major progress.
Although… Stede and Edward have been acting very strange lately. They keep seeking Izzy out and pulling him away from his work. Oh well. It’s probably nothing.
According to Edward, he’s been dating Izzy since Izzy’s half-dead love confession a week ago. Stede began dating Izzy a few days later. However, their interactions with Izzy now aren’t any different than they were before they were dating. Stede decides that a good old-fashioned courtship is in order to make Izzy comfortable in their relationship.
What could possibly go wrong?
Reccer's Note: Izzy is a bit of an idiot in this one, I think he is smarter in canon, but you have to kind of go with. Every chapter made me laugh, here are Stede and Ed are trying to be good boyfriends and Izzy is getting more and more confused by the minute. The author extends the concept a little too long maybe, but I'm willing to forgive it for something that makes me smile.

battle of the boyfriends by burning__bridges
Word Count: 38,145
Rating: T
Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings (there's nothing really bad in here)
Relationships: Izzy/Ed/Stede
Summary: Maybe it starts when Jim, with a mischievous smirk plastered onto their face, suggests an idea they have for a competition. Something that'll be really entertaining, for a few weeks at least. A way to finally get back at Izzy Hands for being an irritating bastard all this time.
"The idea is really very simple," Jim starts, "two people compete in order to win Izzy's affections. Whoever seduces Izzy the fastest wins."
Or: Stede and Edward lose a few games of rock, paper, scissors and ending up competing to see who can seduce Izzy quickest. Izzy, understandably, quickly becomes utterly baffled with everyone's behaviour.
Reccer's Note: This is in turns funny, sweet and angsty, because Izzy doesn't know about the bet and starts to fall for Stede, and of course he's always loved Ed. Stede and Ed start to fall for Izzy in turn, so everything is a whole pot of misunderstandings.

Second Chance at Fixing What You Fucked Up by Tessa96
Word Count: 17,581
Rating: T
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply (there is some self-harm in this one)
Relationships: Izzy/Ed/Stede
Summary: Izzy Hands is left wounded and abandoned by Blackbeard, drifting on a piece of wood in the ocean. Thinking he has passed on, he instead wakes up on a ship with Stede Bonnet and his crew tending to him. This gives Izzy some room to reevaluate some of his life choices
Reccer's Note: This one is very angsty. Ed leaves Izzy for dead in one of his drunken Kraken moments, then forgets he did it later. Izzy is rescued by Stede and the two of them work together to find Ed. There is one scene near the end of this fic that is a little bit infamous in Steddyhands circles.

Star Trek: Lower Decks

The Thing About Heroes by southernmedicine
Word Count: 1772
Rating: G
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Tendi & Doctor T'Ana
Summary: Everyone needs a hobby. For Tendi, few things are more enjoyable than archival cataloguing.
Every now and then, she'll take the time to really examine what it is she is lovingly handling and organizing with such care, allowing herself to follow her curiosity and get swept up in the discovery. Hours can pass by, sometimes, before she realizes she hasn't been on shift for ages. How can she help it, when so many of the fascinating topics she happens across tend to fall in line with her favorite subjects of study?
Reccer's Note: I got this as a gift for the Star Trek Holidays Exchange, and I think it deserves more love. Tendi learns about Doctor Leonard McCoy, and is fascinated, but none of her friends want to nerd out about it with her.

Challenge #6

In your own space, post the results of your fandom scavenger hunt.

Okay today is a little crazy because it is fandomtrees reveals day, so I don't have time to go hunting around IRL for stuff, so it's all going to be digital I'm afraid (plus I don't have a ton of real fandom things)

1. A favorite character
Even though I'm not that active in SPN fandom anymore, one of my fave characters is still Rowena. Enjoy this art I won at auction a few years ago of Rowena with her son Crowley (the reunion we deserved but never got):

2. Something that makes you laugh
Man Carrying Thing always makes me laugh, here is one of his most recent vids about character development:

3. A bookshelf
Most of my books are kept on a old metal utility shelf or in pretty wallpaper covered boxes you can get from the dollarama to keep the dust off them (like the one below). Someday I will have nice bookselves, maybe:

4. A game or hobby you enjoy
As some of you may know, I am a social media volunteer with Fanlore. Follow us if you can on Tumblr or Twitter, we work really hard on those posts. If you don't have either tumblr or twitter you can see all our posts on [syndicated profile] fanlore_tumblr_feed (which a wonderful person created for me during holiday wishes)

5. Something you find comforting
I got a snow leopard stuffed animal, similar to the one below, just before Christmas and I love him, he sits on top of my desktop harddrive:

6. A TV show or movie you hope more people will watch
Everyone go watch Our Flag Means Death, it's so fun. This is the trailer (unfortunately my favourite character only shows up for one second in it, he's the one who says: "that was your warning"):

7. A piece of clothing you love
I can't find a picture online of the new graphic t-shirt I bought with my x-mas money, but it has a scorpion and a rose on it, and it is a nice washed out brown colour. In fact I mostly wear graphic tees and jeans all the time now. Teenage me would be a little bit surprised by this, she was a little bit preppy, a least when it came to going out.

8. A thing from an old fandom
I think I will always and forever love Star Trek: TOS, it's kind of a comfort show for me. Here, enjoy this vid I made for Star Trek Holidays this year:

9. A thing from a new fandom
This is one of my favourite OFMD vids, it's Jolene and really encompasses how Izzy sees the Ed/Stede relationship (Warning: It includes clips from the whole season, so spoilers are ahead!):
kingstoken: (Sunshine Challenge Floatie)

Prompt 6: Amethyst
In the ancient world, Amethysts were believed to hold the power to purify the body, especially from drunkenness. It was also thought that they could help cure disease, and so Amethysts were used to draw any illness out. They have been associated with royalty, nobility and spirituality because of their purple colour. In modern times, they’re used as popular semi-precious stones and are either cut into faceted gems or carved. Amethysts are also the birthstone for February.

First off, I didn't sleep well last night, so my brain is not optimal today, so this is just going to be a bit of randomness, that you will maybe enjoy. Purple is my favourite colour, in it's honour please enjoy this McSpirk vid where Kirk is trying to convince Spock to accept Bones as their third. It uses a sparkly purplely overlay:

Secondly, enjoy this cute and funny OFMD fic there the crew of The Revenge think Izzy has been turned into a vegetable!:

Thistle Teach 'Em by sweatervest

Fandom: Our Flag Means Death

Lastly, a music rec, Alittle by Romes (tw: mentions depression and possibly suicidal thoughts):

kingstoken: (Sunshine Challenge Floatie)

Prompt 5: Bloodstone
Typically dark green with red inclusions, Bloodstone is often used to increase one’s courage, motivation, and creative energy. It’s also beneficial for endurance and physical strength. The Ancient Greeks held the Bloodstone as a gem with glorious powers and referred to it as Heliotrope, which directly translates to Sunstone. If your birthday lies in the month of March (or if you are an Aries), you can count Bloodstone as one of your birthstones as a means of action and vitality.

For today's prompt I am going to focus on courage and endurance, so please enjoy this powerful vid by bironic, about characters of colour in sci-fi, fantasy, and horror. Trust me, you will be pumped after:

Also, this Disney fanvid went super viral a few years ago, but in case you missed it, this vid will send you on a nostalgia trip, and you will be in awe of this person's editing skills:

That's it for this day, not a lot I know, but I hope you all have a good week!
kingstoken: (Sunshine Challenge Floatie)

Prompt 2: Rose Quartz
Soft pink in color, Rose Quartz has been a popular stone since as far back as 800-600 BCE. Today, as in the past, it’s most associated with love, compassion, and healing in all its forms both towards oneself and others. In the Greek myths it’s mentioned at least twice: once where Eros is said to have brought it to man to inspire love, and again in the story of Aphrodite and Adonis where it came to represent love triumphant. It’s a stone of beauty and sentiment and will likely be favored for years to come.

First off, because Our Flag Means Death is constantly on my mind lately, enjoy this great fanvid set to Lil Nas X's version of Jolene:

Secondly, I don't why, but I read the prompt and my first thought was "ah yes hurt/comfort", brains are weird sometimes. Anyways, here are some hurt/comfort recs for your enjoyment:

Luck of the Devil by ItsClydeBitches
Word Count: 6380 words
Fandom: Our Flag Means Death
Rating: T
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Ed/Izzy/Stede
Summary: I'm dying, Izzy thought with sudden, brutal clarity. Right on the heels of that came: Finally.
And then: Edward.
Reccer's note: Izzy drowns and almost dies.  Izzy gets whumped quite a bit in this one, but he has his captains to look after him.

And We Do It All Again by memoeries_are_all_we_have
Word Count: 10802 words
Fandom: Star Trek TOS
Rating: T
Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: Kirk/Spock/McCoy
Summary: Jim has two big problems right now. The first is that he is hopelessly in love with his First Officer and his Chief Medical Officer, and neither seems to return his feelings. The second is that he's stuck in a time loop where his ship is destroyed and his crew killed, over and over again.
Things can never be simple for James T. Kirk, can they?
Reccer's note: A Classic sci-fi premise, with poor Jim Kirk stuck in a time loop by himself where he keeps trying to save the Enterprise from destruction. This fic is so good, but also heart-breaking at times.  It is very focused on Kirk's relationship with Spock and McCoy, and just when it seems that maybe the triad are going to be able to figure things out Kirk has to go through it all again.  (Warning: there is a suicide attempt in the story)

Last Day on Earth by candle_beck
Word Count: 10802 words
Fandom: Supernatural
Rating: E
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Dean/Sam
Summary: A list of things to do if you only have one day to live, presented in inconvenient non-list form.
Reccer's note: Sam comes in contact with something that should kill him within 24 hours.  This is a classic in SPN fandom for a reason.  The writer captures Dean's POV and his feelings about Sam so beautifully, and Sam's heartbreaking acceptance of his fate and him trying to experience the things he loves on his last day is so Sam.

Blameless by PetrichorPerfume

He doesn’t blame Michael for ripping him from Paradise or for trapping him in the deepest, darkest part of Hell for the rest of eternity. He doesn’t blame Sam for escaping, or Death for leaving him behind. He doesn’t even blame Lucifer for trying to start the Apocalypse.
Reccer's note: Do you want a tiny little fic about Adam in the cage that will hit you in the feels then walk away? Then here you go.

Against the Bitter Cold by EdosianOrchids901

Summary: A pointless temptation assignment leaves Crowley stranded in the middle of a snowstorm. By the time he stumbles back to the inn, he’s so cold and disoriented that he can’t even remember why he was outside. Aziraphale is ready to lend a helping hand.
Reccer's note: In my humble opinion EdosianOrchids901 is one of the best hurt/comfort authors for this pairing.  In this one Crowley gets trapped in the cold, which is not good for a being that is part snake.  Crowley is very disoriented and confused in this, and Aziraphale cares for him.

Challenge #10

In your own space, rec a fanwork (fic, art, vid, playlist, anything!) you did not create.

Oh boy, this challenge is made for me, I rec a lot. First off, I recced a few fairy tale AUs on Snowflake Challenge Day 3, so check those out if you missed them.

On the last day of last year's Sunshine Challenge I recced over a dozen vids from a variety of fandoms, including Star Trek TOS, GOT, SPN, and Elementary among others, so if you like vids go give that one a gander.

I have made a couple of SPN fic rec lists, a Sastiel rec list (also on Tumblr), and a Wincestiel rec list (also on Tumblr).

Now for a some things I don't think I have recced on my journal before:

Equilibrium by PSW
Word Count: 152,047 words
Fandom: Star Trek: TOS
Rating: T
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: McCoy & Kirk & Spock
Summary: McCoy's transport is destroyed in what appears to be a containment field explosion, leaving no known survivors. The truth, however, is not so simple as that ...
Reccer's Note: I discovered this fic last year and now it is one of my favourite Trek fics ever. This fic is as well written and plotted as any of the tie-in novels I have read. It is about McCoy, who is kidnapped by non-federation aliens who force him to work for them. Meanwhile, Kirk, Spock and everyone on the ship, are grieving for McCoy, because they think he died in an explosion. The author does an excellent job balancing action and character moments, and their pacing is really good. They do not sugarcoat over how traumatic this situation is for Bones, they give it space to breath, while also moving the plot forward, which is not always an easy task. Although the story is McCoy focused the writer also does a good job with Spock and Kirk, and the characterization of everyone felt on point. Plus, they added some really interesting original characters. Also, I like that they took the time to explore the aftermath of such a situation, and not just skim over it, like they would have at the end of an episode. If McCoy is one of your faves, and you enjoy hurt!McCoy you should read this!

Reccer's Note: I may be a little biased about this one, because it was written for me as a gift, but I find it funny and delightful. Poor Loki is trying so hard to teach the TVA about everyday chores, even though he has no idea what he is doing himself. He gets so close on occasion, like he is getting the basic concepts, but he just can't make it work.

Prompt 7: Zephyrus

Kingstoken's Vid Reccing Extravaganza
I'm going off prompt here, because it is the last day of the challenge, and reccing all the vids that that didn't fit a particular prompt. I may have recced a couple of these vids before, so please forgive me, but hopefully you find something you enjoy!
all the vids! )

Prompt 6: Amphitrite

Amphitrite is goddess of the sea, so here a few water related recs. First fanvid is a multifandom mermaid vid:

Second fanvid is also multifandom, it is not as obviously related as the first one, but it does have some water imagery (Note: warning for images of blood and gun violence):

The last vid really isn't water related in any way except for the song, but is awesome. I think it is kind of famous in, and out of, Marvel fandom. The vidder does an amazing job timing the clips to the music:

A couple of fic recs:
Sliver and Cold by Couyfish and Threshie
Fandom: Supernatural
Word Count: 33,274 words
Rating: T
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Sam/Cas, Dean & Sam
Summary: When a cursed necklace turns Sam into a merman with an alluring effect on people, Dean and Cas must find a way to cure him. Dean seems immune to Sam's powers, but Cas is another story.
Reccer's Note: This fic is sweet and hilarious, and little scary in some parts. Sam gets turned into a merman and Cas falls under his siren's call, and poor Dean is just trying to figure out some way for him to change Sam back, while at the same time trying to thwart Sam and Cas' many attempts to runoff to the sea together!

returning home by salzrand
Fandom: Game of Thrones
Word Count: Fancomic!
Rating: G
Warnings: Graphic depictions of violence
Relationships: Jorah/Dany
Summary: A lonely fisherman searching for home and finding it in the sea.
Reccer's Note: A lovely AU fancomic, where Jorah is a lonely fisherman who meets Mermaid!Daenerys. It is very sweet, and the artist is very talented, her style reminds me very much of old fairy tales. If you get a chance check out some her other Jorleesi fanart

Only one self rec today, because I don't write a lot of fic related to water:

Waterfall
Fandom: The 100
Word Count: 646 words
Rating: E
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Abby/Kane
Summary: Abby and Marcus enjoy a little alone time in a secluded spot.
Reccer's Note: This is just basically smut. I wrote this for an exchange, smut is not really my forte, but I do try on occasion.
kingstoken: (Default)

Prompt 5: Pan

First off, this multifandom vid, it doesn't perfectly fit the theme, but I kind of like the vibe, a celebration of the pain and wonder of life (Note: Warning for a couple of scenes that show blood)

Pan is a god associated with nature so I thought I would share some fic recs that have nature themes or nature plays a role:

August Rains by blueberrynewt
Fandom: Star Trek TOS
Word Count: 1127 words
Rating: G
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: McCoy/Kirk/Spock
Summary: Leonard discovers he loves the rain.
Just some rainy day fluff and warmth where everyone is happy and in love.
Reccer's Note: A story where Bones reflects on how much he missed rain when he was in space, plus some old married McSpirk fluff.

Leave, but Don't Leave Me by keelover
Fandom: X-Men Comics
Word Count: 1499 words
Rating: M
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Storm/Wolverine
Summary: Logan needed to get away, catch his breath.
Reccer's Note: Logan's feelings as he joins Storm for a late night swim. It is mostly sexy times with feelings, which is a good thing, but there is also some nice nature imaginary, and Storm using her mutant powers.

A Gift Of Mistletoe by flawedamythyst
Fandom: Supernatural
Word Count: 1270 words
Rating: G
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Sam/Cas
Summary: After Sam gets his soul back, Castiel starts bringing him presents.
Reccer's Note: Cas keeps bringing Sam gifts of branches, thinking this an appropriate human convention, but Sam just isn't getting what Cas is trying to say. Humorous.

A few more fics that don't exactly have nature themes, but I think still kind of work:

I Saved A Plate For You by ilgaksu
Fandom: Hawkeye Comics
Word Count: 326 words
Rating: G
Warnings: Choose Not to Use Archive Warnings (but there is nothing bad in here)
Relationships: Clint & Kate
Summary: Kate finds out about the farm.
Reccer's Note: What if Clint from the Comics had a farm like Clint from the movies? I normally don't like 2nd person POV, but something about it works in this little fic. I love how Clint thinks about Kate and her visiting his old farm house.

The Rose and the Serpent by Atalan
Fandom: Good Omens
Word Count: 55795 words
Rating: M
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Aziraphale/Crowley
Summary: AU, retelling of “Beauty and the Beast”. Quite honestly, sending Aziraphale off into the forest to be held hostage by a giant snake in a cursed castle isn’t even the worst thing Gabriel’s ever done to him, and at least it means a change of scene. But then neither the snake nor the castle turn out to be quite what he’s expecting…
Reccer's Note: This a Beauty and the Beast retelling so there is quite a bit of rose imagery. It is about Aziraphale realizing his own self worth, and Crowley finding a way to accept love even if he is cursed to remain in his snake form. It is such nice take on the classic fairy tale, while still being able to keep both Aziraphale and Crowley pretty in character.

Under the Surface by pherryt
Fandom: Supernatural
Word Count: 25842 words
Rating: T
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Dean/Benny/Cas
Summary: Dean was kicked out of his pack because he couldn't turn into his wolf, but shifters aren't meant to be alone. He finds a traveling companion in Benny, who's been on the run from his own pack for years and is desperately lonely. It goes well enough, except that Dean keeps getting sick and Benny doesn't know why, so when they find what appears to be an abandoned village, they take refuge - only to find a lone wolf still lives there and he's not too happy to find strangers in his home.
Reccer's Note: This is a wolf-shifter AU, but is not A/B/O. It has fantasy elements, but at it's core it's a really nice story about people who have been rejected from, or lost, their families (or packs in case) and are building a new one of their own. It is one of my fave Destiny fics.

Lastly some self recs:

Snowfall
Fandom: DC Comics
Word Count: 88 words
Rating: G
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Wonder Woman/Kate Kane
Summary: "It has been decades since experiencing my first snowfall, but it still amazes me."
Reccer's Note: A teeny tiny little fic where Diana talks about snow with Kate.

Kiss in the Rain
Fandom: Marvel Comics
Word Count: 115 words
Rating: G
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Storm/Wolverine
Summary: He was so lost in the warmth of her mouth, the heat of their kiss, that he almost didn't notice the first drop of moisture on his cheek
Reccer's Note: Another tiny one, where Logan and Ororo are kissing in the rain

The Angel and the Mortal
Fandom: Supernatural
Word Count: 1769 words
Rating: G
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Adam/Michael
Summary: ”How dare you disturb my rest, and defile my being. I should smite you for your transgression.” It was then that Adam realized that he was still clutching the feather in his hand, and how bad that must look. He placed the feather at the foot of this person.
“I'm sorry, I didn't mean to. Please don't hurt me. I promise to find some way to repay you.” The being snorted.
“As if a mere mortal man could offer me anything.” Adam desperately tried to think of something of value that he could give in exchange for his life, he was not rich, he had no great talent with art or song, he was not a true warrior.
“I could offer you my friendship.”
Adam's life changes when he meets an unusual being in the woods.
Reccer's Note: This is my most recent fic, that I wrote for the fairy tale exchange. It is loosely inspired by the fable of The Lion and The Mouse.

Prompt 3: Hecate

Hecate is associated with magic, so I thought I would share some recs for one of my favourtie magic wielding characters, MCU's Loki.

Self rec:
I finished this vid a couple of days ago, and I was pleased with myself at how fast I completed it, because sometimes it can take me a long time to finish a vid, that is why I don't vid very often. **Note** Spoilers for episodes 1-4 of the Loki TV series. Also, I do use a glitch effect for transitions, I don't think this should cause any problems, but I am warning for it just in case.

Loki TV Series Art Recs:

*Loki portrait with fireworks by enstatia

A couple pieces of art of Frigga and little Loki, based on a story Loki tells in the series:
*She was the kinda person you’d want to believe in you by alyrian
*she taught him how to do fireworks by blargberries

Loki TV Series Fic Recs:
At The End of All Times by Emperor_Huckling
Word Count: 598 words
Rating: Not rated
Warnings: Major Character Death
Relationships: Old Loki/Thor
Summary: Loki creates Asgard to save everyone but himself. When the shadows finally fall, who else will be there to greet him if not his beautiful oaf of a brother.
Reccer's Note: This little fic made me cry, it explores Classic Loki's last moments.

And because watching the series has made me miss Loki and Thor together, I have been reading Thorki fics lately, here are a few recs:
Home is Not a Place by ravenbringslight
Word Count: 7085 words
Rating: M
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Loki/Thor
Summary: Loki had spent so many years hiding in fear of Thanos that when the Mad Titan finally showed up it was almost disappointing how easy it was to kill him.
or
Thor and Loki build a life together on Earth.
Reccer's Note: A sweet fic where Thor and Loki come together after establishing a home on earth. It is mostly domestic fluff, but there is a nice scene where Loki finds a way for Thor to fly again, without his hammer.

new rules by kafkian
Word Count: 29277 words
Rating: E
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Loki/Thor
Summary: ‘Oh good, more excellent ideas from Thor,’ Loki sighs with a total and complete lack of enthusiasm. ‘Can’t I just push Heimdall down the stairs or something?’
‘How is that a good deed?’ Thor asks, bewildered.
‘It would give everyone a good laugh,’ Loki says, the corner of his mouth twitching. ‘I’m laughing on the inside just picturing it.’
---
In which Loki is roped into cleaning up his act to reassure the people that he isn't planning on betraying them (again), while Thor spends far too much time explaining that no, they aren’t sleeping together.
Reccer's Note: On the ship after Ragnarok, they try to redeem Loki's reputation. This is a slower build, focusing on Thor's feelings for his brother and Loki trying to regain the trust of others, but don't worry, there is also hot sex at the end.

Also Built on Ruins by coyotesuspect
Word Count: 13751 words
Rating: M
Warnings: Creator Choose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: Loki/Thor
Summary: Gods marry their siblings all the time, right?
At least, that's what Thor tells himself after it's suggested the cleanest solution to the Loki Problem is to marry him.
Reccer's Note: Another one of them on the refugee ship, where everyone decides the best way for Thor to deal with the Loki problem is for him to marry Loki. I liked this one because it still had Loki being his manipulative self, while also having them come together.

Also, non-Loki related, a shout out to my favourite magical witch character, Rowena from Supernatural, who I included in my Sunshine Challenge Day 1 post.
