Challenge #15

In your own space, opine on the future of fandom.

I actually think fandom is going to be just fine. Will it look like today's fandom? Probably not, but fans always find a way to find other fans and share their fanworks. As for twitter, at some point something is going to come along to replace it, what that is going to be I don't know, it might be more than one thing. Fans have always found the tools and platforms for what they need, even though none of them were created for that purpose. So, I'm sure we'll do it again.

As for me, I'll probably stick to what I know for now, but if some other platform really takes off, and it is easy to use, I'll probably give it a try.

There's not a doubt in my mind that fandom will go on either. My wish would be for a platform that's for fandom in particular rather than just adapting tools and platforms to sort of fit us.

Fandom will always find a way, indeed :D

My feeling is that if there was a thriving fan culture before syndicated re-runs and home internet were a thing then fandom will, uh, find a way, as Dr. Ian Malcolm would put it no matter what the future brings. If I end up posting USB keys to my friends to share things with them or buying a ham radio to talk to other fans then that's what I'll do!

Yes, lol, it's not likely going to come to that. But one way or another fan culture is here to stay, whatever its next evolution turns out to be.

I love that take! Fandom has been going so long, in so many different forms. Even if that form continues to change, it's hard to imagine that fandom itself would cease.

The resilience and adaptability of fandom is always something to bet on for the future. Even if you're completely sure that it won't look anything like what it does now.

i think you're completely right - fandom will stick around, it's just the form it takes that will change. but what that form is, no one can really predict.

You were a shred of hope in the middle of the darkness of my heart. I worry too much about the future of the fandom and you and a few other members of snowflake challenge make it look so easy to imagine a beautiful future. It really cheers me up.
