One with a blue cover

I am not sure if the meme meant blue as in the colour or blue as in sad, but I took the literal meaning. I just finished this novel just recently, I picked it up because a booktuber I watch has talked about it a lot. It is a very interesting read, and I think very well done, but it is not always an easy read. The story covers multiple perspectives and is about a girl who is raped by a star player on the local hockey team, in a town that is obsessed with the sport. You don't need to know much about hockey, in fact you could easily see this story taking place in a small town that worships their football or basketball team. There is quite a bit of build up, getting to know the different characters, but I think that is necessary to understand aftermath, and why certain characters react the way they do. It is not a perfect read, but I still recommend it, if you would be okay with the subject matter.

Best bargain

Okay, I couldn't pick just one book for this one, but I thought I would tell a little story. Back in the day I used to love thrift stores, especially my local Goodwill, who had paperback books for 50¢. Every 2-3 months they would fill up a bin, and all the books in the bin were 25¢. I used to love digging through those bins. The bins were mostly filled with Harlequin romances, pulp mysteries and novellas. For a young person who was pretty broke those discounts bins were the greatest thing ever, I used to buy books by the bagful, and if you got one you really disliked it didn't really matter, because they were only 25¢. I went there pretty regularly, and it got to the point that the employees got to know me and would tell me about upcoming clearance bins, they were just happy to get rid of the stock, because they used to get so many book donations. Well, this went on for quite a few years until Goodwill made changes, I think from the parent organization, and they raised the prices of all the books, and they discontinued the clearance bins. It was sad, I found myself going there less and less, and now it's gone.

Favourite book from childhood

This was a hard choice because I have a few that I love, but fell in love this book when I think I was in 4th grade, we read it as a class, and I just loved it. There is just something delightful about Mary finding a secret neglected garden and bringing it back to life. It is also somewhat Gothic in nature, although I didn't know it at the time, with Mary hearing strange sounds which nobody will tell her the source of, and forbidden rooms, etc. And for a book that was written in 1910, and set in the Victorian time period, it holds up really well, and is still a delightful read
